‘Fashion Phobia’ shoot at Planet Reptile
Trying to pull together 3 models, a snake, spider and bearded dragon and matching makeup was not all that easy, but Gemma and I came up with the shoot idea of ‘Fashion Phobia’. The actual finished photos you can find on my flickr photostream.

‘The Doll’ shoot transformation
I’m really pleased to be working with a new professional makeup artist Gemma Sutton on some new shoot ideas. She’s an ex model, but also a fantastically creative artist; one of the best I’ve worked with. You can see a few of the final shots from this shoot on my flickr stream.
We had a shoot idea to create a ‘doll’ look using some extreme makeup, a wig and fake lashes and using my lightring. I took photos during the transformation of Vicki and was so staggered when I saw the result. Here it is from start to finish, showing the progression of hair,makeup, lighting, and then finally a bit of post-production. Any questions or comments just add below.
Swindon Strobist Flickr meet up
There’s a bunch of us on flickr who met up to practise using off camera flash down at Coate Water Park on Saturday. It was great to meet some local like minded photographers and get some challenging shots in masses of wind and rain. Here is a before and after of a shot of Vicki holding her 40D.

50’s Shoot with Miss Swindon’s Rebecca Cole
After seeing her in the adver I thought I’d approach Becky about doing a shoot. She’s got quite a big portfolio of work but most is agency, studio or competition photos, so I thought we could try something that she’s never done before. She came up with the 50’s idea, and I set about finding a few venues to use. I remembered seeing a really old launderette in the town centre called Wash ‘n’ Go that had some ancient driers so gave them a call and also managed to get us in the red leathery-ness of SUJU in Old Town.
OMG Hair and Beauty in Town sponsor Becky for competitions she enters so they kindly did some amazing hair and makeup. Becky is also entering the Miss Swindon/Wiltshire competition again this year but this time has her sights set on being Miss Wiltshire. If she gets it she’ll get automatic entry straight to the final of Miss England.
Becky was actually a pleasure to work with. She had with her Becky and Vanda from OMG and her Mum so it was certainly a busy shoot but she’s definitely confident and that really helped. Here’s an out-take from the shoot and the original. This is one thing I love seeing from other people’s photo blogs so thought I’d start sharing them on mine.
